Saturday, July 28th, 2018 - McGregor MN
Join us for our 2nd Annual Sam Oden Memorial (Formerly Big Sandy Tri) Kayak, Bike, and Kayak Triathlon! We put on a unique, fun, team relay, and individual triathlon. 2017 was a huge hit! we doubled our team numbers, we added a fun kids race, silent auction and donated $19,500 to the 3 bible camps in McGregor, Mn. This year will be no different, all proceeds go to help out the camps in McGregor.
Most hear the word "Tri" and think "Oh No The Swimming." Well, we took the swimming out and put in Kayaking, and then we give you the choice.. Do you want to complete all 3 events individually? Do you want to form a team? Do you want to compete with 1 or 2 teammates?
A little back ground of how this race became a memorial race. Our 2016 event (Big Sandy Tri) was cancelled due to the passing of Sam, who was killed in a traffic accident. It is important to our family to keep Sam's memory alive. Therefore, we decided to change this race to a charity, as this was Sam's favorite event of the summer (He took first place both of the first two years).
We have set up a non-profit memorial fund in Sam's name. Through this fund, we will continue to support causes that Sam was passionate about. Family, faith, and friends were the foundation of his character. We sincerely appreciate all contributions to honor Sam's generous heart and compassion for others. While his time here may have been cut short, our goal is that this fund will help his spirit to continue on and helps out others.
This event will be chip timed, include a fun kids race, live music, and silent auction.

Thanks to Family, Friends, Participants, and Sponsors of Last years Sam Oden Memorial Triathlon,
100% of your money went to Big Sandy Camp and the Catholic Youth Camp. The pictures below are of the slide at Big Sandy Camp, they used our money we donated to them to help with the costs of creating this super fun slide for the kids. Sam was about kids and about having fun, We know he would approve of this in his name! The Catholic Youth camp used the money for scholarships and for some water sports. Lets donate more money this year!
Thank you again!
